I dyed my platinum hair dark brown and now i want highlights. Will I absolutely destroy my hair?

I am a natural and artificial blonde, then went really dark for a change. My hair was pretty damaged before I dyed it but they did a treatment so it feels alot better. The all over color is a little too dark for me and I want some caramel highlights. I just dyed it 3 weeks ago...is it too damaged to do the highlights so soon? If so, how long should I wait?

No, it isn't. It doesn't matter how long you wait- your hair will still end up damaged. My mom is a natural brunette %26amp; every 2 months she bleaches her hair platinum blonde %26amp; then puts in dark blonde lowlights. She does this in 2 days, so it doesn't matter. Yes, her hair is damaged, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she bleaches AND highlights her hair in a time period of 2 days. It doesn't matter.

BTW- i have naturally dark hair also %26amp; every month or so put in caramel highlights. It looks great, so have fun =)

Ask a salon professional. He/She should know what to do to make your hair beautiful and healthy. =] Good luck!

you're prolly gonna have breakage. no matter how long you wait you're gonna have breakage. bleach on bleach is never a good idea. but if you get a cut or at least a trim after it shouldnt be as bad.

i think caramel highlights will look super hot with dark brown!! hmm...i think you should wait a little while and try to treat your hair like a rockstar princess before and after dying it again. you should also do that treatment again, because dying your hair too often is frying your hair too often. wait about a month and a half or longer, then dye your hair. it will be a nice change, and ppl will be like all over your hair and they will first c u as a brunette, then with highlights. it will be like two looks in one, which i think will look hot, if you kno what i mean...

Go back to your stylist and tell her/him how you feel. I'm a stylist, but I'm also broke so I try to help people do things at home as much as possible, but with your hair being as fragile as it sounds, professional help would be better. If you can't afford to go back, which is understandable, go to Sally's and ask for a cream bleach and a low volume developer like 10 or 20. Cream bleach is much more gentle than powder bleach and lower volumes of developers are also less damaging. However they do take longer to process. Most people that work at Sally's are licensed or have at least been through cosmetology school and are well educated to help you, so don't be afraid to ask.

the problem is not highlighting "colored" hair, the problem is putting bleach over bleach. if you bleached your hair prior to coloring it dark, you may have to wait a little bit longer if you want to put bleach highlights in. now, if your hairdresser uses "color" to highlight your hair, you should be fine. i would def check with the pro's first...just to be sure. im sure they will help you out!! good luck!
