Can I color my hair if I already have permanent blonde highlights?

My hair is naturally medium-dark brown, and it has permanent blonde highlights in it. I want to dye my hair to a dark-burgundy red color. Is it safe to dye my entire head a different color with either semi-permanent or permanent hair color? I heard somewhere that doing this can cause severe discoloration or breakage of the already dyed hair, but I'm not sure if this is true. Please advise!

Yes and no, generally where the the lighter colors are the burgundy color will be lighter, I would leave the color on for the full amount of time. My sister has done this before and it turned out okay for her. I'm not a professional hair lady, but see what other answer you get. However, I've seen it done and it turned out okay. You will get split ends no matter what because it's chemical on your hair so that is true.

You can dye it, but it'll leave your hair very dry.

I would recommend a semi permanent for an all over color which shouldn't cause any additional damage. If there is a dramatic difference between your hair color and the highlights you can always try to "fill" the highlights first, applying a darker level on them first to have a greater chance of achieving an even all over shade as you end result.

HI what you may find is that if you put the dark burgundy red on is that were you have the blond the red will show up more. And it you do this and dont like it will be hard to go back blond as highlights will damage your hair more . So just keep that in mine hope this helps.
